“I never planned on becoming a teacher in war zones… but life had other plans.
I am Hema Vinod, and my journey in education has taken me from the classrooms of India to refugee camps and conflict zones across the world. I’ve spent over three decades dedicated to helping displaced communities, and along the way, discovered my purpose in empowering young minds and their families.
My journey began in India as a teacher, but when my husband’s work took us to Uganda, I continued teaching. But soon my path shifted to something I could never have imagined, working with UNHCR and later UNICEF.
For over 15 years, I served in conflict-affected countries like Yemen, Somalia, Iraq, Sri Lanka, and Uganda. I worked with refugee children, rebuilt schools, trained teachers, and witnessed the courage of families who valued education even when survival was uncertain.
Everywhere I went, I saw children risk everything just to attend school, and I realized that education in those moments wasn’t just about learning. It was about dignity. It was about hope.
When I returned to India, I chose to reinvent myself, this time as a coach and bestselling author, writing for teens and their parents. My books and my new community, Parenteening for Moms, are an extension of the same mission: giving families strength and resilience to navigate life’s toughest years.
